Loropetalum chinense var rubrum ‘Fire Dance’
Chinese fringe flower
A really under-used shrub that does fantastically well in a sheltered spot with a good bit of sun.
- Situation: Full to part sun, moist soil
- Hardiness: Hardy (in most parts of the UK)
- Grows to: 1.5m x 1.2m
It’s one of the alarm clocks in the garden – when you see the deep pink flower clusters blazing away in early spring you know that winter’s nearly over and it’s time to get back in the garden.
But aside from the early show of flowers Loropetalum chinense ‘Rubrum’ is an attractive foliage plant with its dark purple coloured foliage, its excellent at offering contrast and interest in mixed beds in the garden.
Care: A light prune after flowering will maintain shape.
