Cordyline – to prune or not to prune?

Cordylines don’t need to pruned regularly but can be tidied up, you can do this by simply removing the old leaves. You should be able to gently pull at the leaves to remove them but any that don’t come off easily can be removed with a good pair of secateurs.

When you take the brown leaves away you reveal more of the trunk giving a more neat and tidy appearance whereas if the leaves are left on, especially on taller Cordylines, they form what looks like a skirt which gives a more natural look.

There’s no right or wrong way for how your Cordyline should look just which kind of style you prefer!
