Tulbaghia is a South African native closely related to the Agapanthus. Tulbaghia is a clump-forming perennial that has beautiful pinkish-mauve tubular flowers on tall stems throughout summer. Tulbaghia is most renowned for its strong garlic smell from the crushed leaves or stems.
A very subtle and handsome plant that works really well at the front of a mixed border, in a pot, or in dry gardens and rockeries.
Tulbaghia has proven hardy in the UK for some years, but would benefit from a sheltered spot in the very coldest parts of the UK.
Tulbaghia violacea loves sunny hot spots and is also very drought tolerant.
