  • Be aware that Nerium oleander is a toxic plant, this plant is not recommended if planting around young children or pets.

Nerium oleander usually just called Oleander is instantly recognised as an iconic Mediterranean plant. Oleander is an evergreen semi-hardy shrub that puts on a tremendous show of large brightly coloured flowers through mid-summer.

In the milder parts of the UK and in coastal areas the Oleander proves fairly hardy and will probably be content in a bright sunny spot throughout the year. In the colder parts look to either protect the Oleander or keep the Oleander potted where it can be left in full sun through the warmer months and then moved in to a sheltered spot, greenhouse or conservatory for winter.

Oleander is an essential selection for a Mediterranean planting area alongside Dwarf Fan Palms, Fig Trees, Olive Trees and Bay trees.

To maintain a good dense shape and to promote flowering prune back Oleander after the last frosts in winter and prune again after flowering.

Oleander only requires moderate watering through the growing season, and will benefit from a monthly application of liquid feed to keep the foliage healthy and to promote further flowering.

Oleander is a toxic plant and if ingested in sufficient quantities it can be deadly. We do not recommend planting Oleander around dogs or young children.
