This big bold Mediterranean date palm offers the best value of any Palm tree in the UK due to it's impressive stature.
The Canary Island date palm is generally best suited to mild regions, but those in the colder parts of the country can keep the Date palm potted and move it to a sheltered site for winter. Tying up the fronds is also a quick and simple approach to offering protection from the winter cold. The date palm is also one of the most effective palms in coastal or exposed areas.
The Date palm works fantastically as a standalone palm tree in a pot or in the ground. And can be used amongst other palm trees such as as dwarf fan palm dwarf fan palm (Chamaerops humilis), Chilean wine palm (Jubaea chilensis) or jelly palm (Butia capitata) to create a great mix of palm trees.
The Canary Island date palm needs to be kept moist throughout the growing season and will benefit from a monthly application of foliar feed from mid-April to September, especially so if potted. A quick tidy up of fronds is also a good idea during the spring and autumn.
