Anyone who has visited Kew Gardens cannot fail to have noticed its spectacular Chilean wine palm.
The London attraction boasts the largest Chilean wine palm in the world - and you can bring a little piece of Kew into your garden by investing in your own Jubaea chilensis.
One of the largest palm trees in the world, this truly spectacular specimen is renowned for its huge rounded trunk.
A hardy outdoor palm, it is perfect as a centrepiece or for lighting up an exotic themed border alongside other hardy palm trees, such as the Jelly Palm (Butia capitata) or the Chusan palm (Trachycarpus fortuneii).
The Jubaea chilensis does best in full sun and soil that is moderately well-drained. To help promote strong healthy fronds apply a liquid feed every two to four weeks during the growing season (typically mid-April to September). In spring and Autumn tidy up old fronds at the base of the Chilean wine palm. This palm tree really is one of the hardiest palm trees and will thrive in all but the very coldest and wettest conditions.
A truly impressive spectacle, it is not difficult to see why the Chilean wine palm is one of the most sought-after palm trees in the world.
