  • Common Name: Chilean Wine Palm
  • Situation: Full sun, well-drained soil
  • Hardiness: Hardy
  • Eventual Height and Spread: 6m x 4m
  • Larger sizes available

One of the most impressive Palms a big strong thick-trunked tree from the higher altitudes in Chile.

A slow-growing specimen, Jubaea are very rarely seen in the UK at any real size although there is a very impressive Jubaea at Kew Gardens.

With its tropical appearance Jubaea works very well with other such palms - the Jelly Palm (Butia capitata) or the Chusan palm (Trachycarpus fortuneii).

Jubaea chilensis does best in full sun and soil that is moderately well-drained. To help promote strong healthy fronds apply a liquid feed every two to four weeks during the growing season (typically mid-April to September). In spring and Autumn tidy up old fronds at the base of the Chilean wine palm.

This palm tree really is one of the hardiest palm trees and will thrive in all but the very coldest and wettest conditions.
