A must-have plant for a tropical garden: giant, jungle-like paddles of rich red and green leaves unfurl from the thick leafy trunk of this extremely fast growing banana-relative. Grow in a warm sunny spot, and feed and water well. Do not plant in wind, as this will quickly shred the large leaves. Before the first frosts bring the plant indoors and treat as a houseplant, or for larger plants simply dig them up, cut off their leaves and place in a dry, cool place over winter. When planted out in rich soil the following spring, these stumps should quickly start to regrow. Feed regularly throughout the growing season with foliar feed.
