When it comes to choosing an exotic houseplant, there are few more elegant and simple options than the kentia palm tree.
Also known as the Howea forsteriana, this striking palm tree is known for its soft arching fronds and erect stems, which give it a beautifully delicate appearance.
It is ideal for keeping in a pot and could light up a living room, bedroom or even bathroom.

Many kentia palm growers opt to put their specimen in their conservatory, although they must be careful to keep it out of strong sunlight wherever possible.

As with most other palm trees, the kentia palm will greatly benefit from a monthly feed from around mid-April to September to ensure it is getting all the nutrients it needs. Green-fingered enthusiasts should also keep an eye on the older fronds and give them a tidy-up if they become tatty.

When creating an exotic indoor display, one palm tree is never enough.
Therefore, it is a good idea to invest in a bamboo palm (Chamaedorea seifrizi) or areca palm (Chrysalidocarpus lutescens) to add extra depth, variety and beauty.
