Who says gardens and patios are the only areas that can be given a little exotic spice?

Lounges, bedrooms, conservatories - even bathrooms - can be given an exotic feel with an indoor palm tree - and there are few more striking options than the Areca palm.
 
Also known as the Chrysalidocarpus lutescens, it is a fantastically dense and bushy palm, which can grow to a height of 2 metres and has a spread of around 1 metre.
 
Exotic plant growers should be careful not to give this plant full direct sunlight during the summer months and will need to keep a close eye on watering during this period.
 
Watering can be reduced during the winter, while a liquid feed should be applied from around mid-April to September.
 
The Areca palm is perfect for arranging with other indoor palm trees, such as the bamboo palm (Chamaedorea seifrizii), ponytail palm (Beaucarnea recurvata) and kentia palm (Howea forsteriana).
