Cordylines & Phormiums
I'm not sure whey these two quite warranted their own category. Maybe they felt too important just to be dumped into 'Shrubs'. In their defence it is fair to say that not only does their foliage have real structural impact in the planting area, but they are also very hardy to just about all conditions. They really are excellent utility plants, if nothing else seems to work you could try these.
