From wasps, earwigs, flies, and even slugs, our new Carnivorous plants will prove to be an effective and environmentally friendly form of pest control. But more than that, they offer real architectural value with their tall cylindrical pitchers in colours varying from red to purple to cream white. These plants are very hardy, and require very little care, but they must be kept moist throughout the year. Ideally water the plant with rainwater. Close your eyes if you are squeemish this is how it works - Water collects at the base of the vertical pitcher, attracting insects. Once on the rim of the pitcher the poor unsuspecting insect loses its footing on the slippery surface and falls into the water. The insect cannot escape by climbing the inner walls due to fine down-pointing hairs on the inner walls.  The poor insect now dies, decomposes and is absorbed to finish of a truly miserable day.
