  • Common name: Australian Mint Bush
  • Situation: Full/Part sun, well-drained/light soil
  • Hardiness: Hardy in milder parts of the UK
  • Eventual Height and Spread: 1m x 1m

Prostanthera rotundifolia also known as the Australian Mint bush is an evergreen perennial highly acclaimed for it's highly scented foliage. The fragrance is somewhere between Mint and Sage and leaves you wanted to eat Roast Lamb (Well it does me anyway). Another interesting feature of this plant is it's eye catching purple flowers which are profuse in late Spring. Its unsual rounded leaf shape and it's tidy rounded growth habit means the Prostanthera remains an attactive plant throughout the year.

Prostanthera will work well in traditional beds as well as Mediterranean schemes as well of course as Australiasian planting schemes amongst other Australian plants such as the Bottlebrush, Grevillea, Leptospurmum and Melaleuca.

Prostanthera is a very unfussy plant, give as much sun as possible and give it a prune back in spring after flowering. Prostanthera is a plant that copes very well in fairly exposed sites.

Prostanthera rotundifolia is also known as the Australian Mint Bush.
