The New Zealand Tea Tree (Leptospermum scoparium) is a fast-growing evergreen shrub with abundant white flowers in summer.
New Zealand Tea Tree is native to Australia and New Zealand and proves hardy in the UK in all but the coldest of gardens.
The New Zealand Tea Tree is well renowned for two other reasons. For bee-keepers the flowers of the Tea Tree are all but irresistible to bees and are the source for the much sought after Manuka Honey. Secondly the extracts of the Tea Tree plant are proven to have powerful anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and insecticidal properties and are recognised in New Zealand as a traditional medicine.
For an Australisian planting scheme plant Leptospermum scoparium alongside bottlebrushes, Acacia, and Melaleuca.
Leptospermum scoparium is also known as the New Zealand Tea Tree and the Manuka Tea Tree.

Thank you for your concern and loving care you obviously put in to your plants and business. The plant arrived yesterday afternoon in perfect health. Even the delivery man was a pleasure to deal with - we had a nice long conversation and I ended up signing his petition to block yet another petrol price rise. I do hope the plant bears flowers very soon as I am sure our bees will appreciate it very much. I am looking forward to hopefully having some honey next year with a little tea tree in it! Linda |
