Couples looking to be on-trend with their flower choices at their wedding could opt for the Nerium oleander plant.
According to nuptials firm Creative Wedding Planning, purple is "very in fashion" in 2010.
This includes dresses, table dressings and the all-important flower arrangements.
Wedding planner at the company Elizabeth King remarked: "A lot of people are asking me to mix in herbs though, with the flowers, for the colour and to get the nice smell, too. Tall displays are very fashionable."
Numerous exotic plants could fit the bill when it comes to finding purple flowers.
Nerium oleander is a flamboyant Mediterranean shrub, while Agapanthus africanus has a more deep-blue hue.
A clump-forming ever-green perennial, it could look wonderful in an arrangement with Melaleuca ericafolia, a bushy evergreen shrub.
Earlier this year, industry magazine Perfect Wedding claimed more couples are trying to make their ceremonies stand out from the crowd – hiring olive trees or palm trees could be one way of achieving this.
