Phyllostachys Aureocaulis, is an evergreen clump-forming hardy bamboo. Clump-forming means that Phyllostachys Aureocaulis is non-invasive therefore this bamboo will not suddenly appear in next door's lawn.
Situation - Phyllostachys Aureocaulis is an easy to look after bamboo and will tolerate most conditions except full shade. Phyllostachys Aureocaulis has one major dislike - very windy, exposed situations.
Works well with - Phyllostachys Aureocaulis works well with a whole host of plants depending on the setting. But look to use this bamboo amongst tropical palm trees such as the Chusan Palm, or amongst the many jungle plants such as the Taro Plant or the Ginger Lilly for that tropical feel.
Care - To get the best from Phyllostachys Aureocaulis keep the bamboo moist through the growing season, and feed well. Bamboo in general responds very well to water and fertilizer, plenty of each will really push on the growth rate.
To keep tidy once a year prune back old and damaged canes.
Dividing the bamboo can be attempted in early Spring. Be prepared with sharp tools and a stout heart.
A quick note on growing Phyllostachys Aureocaulis in pots. Pots drain away water and nutrients very quickly, so make sure watering and feeding is carried out regularly throughout the growing season.
Applications - Bamboo such as Phyllostachys Aureocaulis is primarly used for screening. Nothing grows faster and is quicker to establish a dense screen than bamboo. Phyllostachys Aureocaulis along with Arrow Bamboo are amongst the best at achieving this. The other benefit of using bamboo for screening is that it's evergreen, giving good coverage all year round.
Settings - Phyllostachys Aureocaulis works well in tropical gardens, Japanese gardens and exotic foliage gardens. Phyllostachys Aureocaulis is widely around water features or even in traditional planting schemes to give height and to add depth.
