Welcome to Athelas Plants
After cordial and productive meetings with Mervin King, Gordon Brown, the IMF, and several Russian oligarchs, I really must
recommend that you hold off any serious expenditure in the present financial climate. After further painstaking study of the FTSE and
NASDAQ I can suggest that the only prudent purchases at this globally challenging time is in exotic plants.
And as it so happens you are in exactly the right place for such an endeavour! You can order through our online store,
or come and visit us at the nursery 7 days. And wherever you are and whatever the size we deliver nationwide.
If your not sure about anything and need some advice, do not hesitate to contact us . It sounds corny and old-fashioned
but we really are happy to help you!
If you haven't ordered from us before, please give us a try, and you will find quality plants, backed up by friendly, swift and efficient service .
Carnivorous Plants We've got some exciting yet ruthless carnivorous plants in. We have two sorts, the Venus Fly Trap and the Pitcher plant. Both are very efficient at catching unsuspecting wasps, flies, weevils, slugs and small children. Ok maybe I'm exaggerating with the small children bit.
Click here to see our range or here to find out more about them. I've carried out some very careful non-biased market research at the nursery, and these have come out as number one as the best unusual gift for someone.
Time to get fleeced!
Now, its that time of year again when you start casting a weary eye to toward winter, and how to best keep snug your dearest and tenderest in the garden. Well if protection is needed we have a fairly hassle free solution. Its a fleece hood with draw strings at the bottom. Have a look they come in three sizes and really do simplify the job.
The one thing i will say regarding winter care - is that the single biggest threat in winter is poorly drained soils. Most exotic plants really don't want to sit wet through winter. As always if you need a little advice, please feel free to call/email us . For a few general ideas have a look at our winter tips page.
About You
Welcome, to our website, it is a fairly safe bet to suggest that you are here for the first time. Infact there's a 78% chance that you are here for the first time. There is a 80% chance that you are reading this from with the UK, although strangely there's a good chance that you could be in either Alaska or Australia. It's more than favourable that you used a search engine to find the site (80%) and again likely the search engine was Google. (77%). And looking at the busiest times of the day for this site, you are probably at work, it's ok, I don't think anyone can see you!.
I'm happy to say you'll probably spend around about 4 minutes on the site browsing around 24-28 pages, and from your perusal there's a 2% chance you'll buy something. And if you do, it's overwhelmingly good odds, (see testimonials) that you will be happy with the service and the product you receive, which by the way will most likely arrive within 3 days of ordering.
Now enough about you, more about me. The only safe thing you can probably determine from this about me, is that there is a worringly high percentage that I should be doing better things with my time then studying the website statistics page.
One more statistic, and at last an important one - we are 100% committed to offering you the right advice, great plants, and a responsive, efficient service.
Heroes of Hedge
Alright, due to popular demand, and the fact that we like them, we have starting stocking some fairly chunky (2m Tall) Taxus, Quercus, Ilex, Photinia, Viburnum and Laurel. We thought it was really important to stock a range of ready-made hedging plants. It seems from our experience this year, that when people want a screen or hedge, they want it to give good coverage now, not in the 3-4 years.
So if you have a shopping list to fill, give us a call, and I'm sure we can help you out. And if we haven't got what you need at the nursery, our network of suppliers here and in Europe can get you what you need in any size and quantity within 10 days. Fear not we have all shapes and sizes of transport here ,so regardless of the size or quantity, we can deliver.

Office Plants I had an interesting visit up to London the other day supplying plants to a huge and plush office overlooking the Thames. Well it was only when I had to engage my much maligned brain in to working out which plants to use, that I realised we had heaps of plants perfect for the job.
So if you have an office space or infact any indoor area that needs a little livening up, give us a call and we can see if we can help.
Our Testimonials I've added a testimonials page to give you some idea of what our customers think of the plants they received from us. And as importantly the service they received from us. Buying plants online offers great value but also the uncertainty of not seeing what you buying. So I thought the best way to alleviate some of that uncertainy is to show you what our customers thought of the plants that we sent them.
Thoughts from the Nursery I've had a wander around the nursery to give you an idea of what is really standing out at the moment. In the flowering department the Australian Callistemon and Grevillea are still full of colour as are the Oleanders and the Gauras .
Amongst the Palms, Agaves, and Olives it's fairly straightforward to report, as always they are all looking great. But a special mention must go to the large Butia capitata which really make a stunning specimen palm.
Help is at hand It can be a little overwhelming trying to decide which exotic plant is for you. Deciding if a Yucca would suit better than a Cordyline, or if an Olive is happy in a shady spot, if that Trachycarpus is happy in a sea breeze. If your not sure give us a call or email us and we will be happy to advise you. We are trying to build a bit of an exotic plant knowledge base , so you may find some helpful information there. If you have an olive tree you should be seeing some olives by now (Mid June). If you've ever wondered how to prepare them for eating, click here .
Slow release fertiliser now available! The information found for each product in our plant library quite often mentions slow release fertiliser with very low levels of phosphates. This really will be difficult to track down in the regular gardening centres as it just isn't appropriate for most plants in the UK.
Therefore we are now stocking the specially formulated slow release fertiliser that we use here at the nursery on the vast majority of our exotic plants from the southern hemisphere.
Our online shop sells an interesting and ever growing range of exotic plants, including varieties of Palms , Yuccas and other Agaves , Succulents , Cordylines , Grasses , Bamboo , Olive trees and a large range of shrubs from the southern hemisphere such as Callistemon , Grevillea , Leptospurmum . We also now have a very vigorous and colourful collection of 'Jungle' like plants such as Cannas , Hedychium , Alocasias and many more.
The great majority of these trees and plants have one very attractive property in that they are very low maintenance, giving maximum effect with minimum effort.
